It is good to see that even in this time of downloads and iPods, the art of the cheaply priced, informative and entertaining label sampler still continues. ‘Trojan Selecta’ CDs appear every few months and draw from the label’s latest releases. This set therefore includes the likes of the late Desmond Dekker in wonderful form on ‘Intensified (Music Like Dirt)’, Ronnie Davis covering Bob Marley’s ‘Kaya’, several dub items which range from The Aggrovators to King Tubby, Lee Perry and the UKs own Mad Professor, Jamaican soul-reggae with Dave Barker’s sublime ‘Prisoner Of Love’, accomplished reggae revival sounds from Pama International (with veteran dee-jay Dennis Alcapone guesting), and an instrumental offering from pioneer trombonist Rico Rodriguez.
