Brazilian outfit Tribo De Jah have a recording history stretching back more than ten years, though they have been together under the leadership of vocalist, guitarist and composer Fauzi Beydoun a lot longer than that. Their sound is quite clearly based on Bob Marley’s seventies international reggae, nice and rootsy with plenty of one-drops and lyrics mostly in Portuguese, though English is used occasionally, and with upful, conscious themes. On this album there is even a cover (in Portuguese) of Max Romeo’s ‘War Ina Babylon’ – and wonderful it is too! There are sometimes other elements to be heard – a little touch of rock, a tinge of dancehall, some hints of more indigenous Brazilian sounds – which add to the considerable appeal of this laid-back and nicely relaxed CD. Highly recommended… - Norman Darwen
