South London singer Roger
Robin impressed
me a lot back in the nineties with his soulful vocals, and his songs
in a smooth lover’s rock style. Then I lost touch with him – until
now.
Label owner and dub specialist Jah Shaka is justly famed for his
authoritative roots approach, and Roger certainly fits right into
the mould. Sounding a little like a very – very - rootsy Maxi
Priest in places and the great Garnet Silk at other times, this is
a wonderful, upful, all-original, bass-heavy set, with backing from
Mafia and Fluxy, and engineering by Gussie P at A-Class Studios.
Strictly conscious sounds all the way…
