Since his death in New York in 1984, Kingston, Jamaica born singer and producer Keith Hudson’s reputation has grown on an international scale. Pressure Sounds can take some of the credit for this, as their reissue of Keith’s dub album ‘Brand’ has had a great influence on the dub scene itself and even transcended the specialist markets for Jamaican music. Of course, much of the credit must also go to Keith. He was always prepared to experiment and step outside the mainstream, as on this CD, a CD release of his 1979 album. Much of it is deeply meditational, and the sound is stark and eerie in many places, though some tracks are brighter and lighten the mood somewhat towards the end. It may not have the truly essential qualities of some of Keith’s works but it is dub from a master, and that is always worth hearing. - Norman Darwen
