The quality of this release certainly makes me want to investigate just what I have missed so far. Tanty’s mission is to present “today’s global dub warriors”, to maintain dub’s spiritual expressiveness, and “to create music that pricks the social conscience but which can be dance floor friendly…” On the basis of this volume, I would say they succeed!

Presenting acts from the USA, the UK, France, Brazil, Sweden, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands, this also avoids the easy route of going for the simple one-drops whilst keeping the reggae vibe. Here you will find the jazz-inflected sounds of the excellent French outfit Faya Dub, the deeply meditational approach of Sweden’s Social Living Sounds, and the wonderfully minimalist work of Bamjimba vs. Mad Professor with ‘Wake Up Dub’. Vibronics, Alpha & Omega, and Abassi Sounds are all well-known and well-respected names on the UK dub scene with which I am familiar, so I have no reason to doubt that the likes of Dub Creator, Eastern Dub Tactik, The Technician, Groundation, and Maka Ron are equally so in their respective countries of origin. All these offerings fully justify their inclusion. Now as I said, I’ll have to investigate the back catalogue more thoroughly. - Norman Darwen
