These
days too many rhythm albums are non-stop, don’t even slow
down to take a breath experiences. This one is different, with its
prominent acoustic guitar work and artists who make music to last
longer than a couple of weeks - witness Gentle Man (the mis-spelling
suits his track) and ‘Intoxication’, a resurgent Maxi
Priest with ‘I Believe’, and Morgan Heritage’s
‘Your Best Friend’. T.O.K., Sizzla, Bounty Killa, and
Anthony B all benefit from the change of pace, Luciano is as righteous
as ever with a pertinent ‘For The Leaders’, Tanya Stephens
has ‘After You’, and Jah Cure and Jeffery Star round
out a very fine package. Even if you do not usually buy rhythm albums,
if you are interested in any of those artists just mentioned, this
mellow offering is certainly worth seeking out.
